Delighted to share that our research on the reaction mechanism of P450 Cinnamate 4-Hydroxylase (C4H) has just been accepted for publication in Catalysis Science & Technology!

C4H is a key enzyme in the phenylpropanoid pathway. Through hybrid QM/MM studies, we explored all plausible pathways for its aromatic hydroxylation reaction. We found the most favourable pathway involves direct hydroxylation via electrophilic attack coupled with a proton shuttle.

This mechanistic insight lays the groundwork for precisely controlling lignin content and carbon flux in plants, paving the way for efficient biomass utilization.
