The increasing global consumption of biofuels calls for efficient transformation of glycerol (GLY), the main by-product in the biodiesel and bioethanol industry process. Enlightened by structure-activity relationship, we design a highly efficient GLY oxidation reaction (GOR) system over BiVO4-based photoanode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) oxidation of GLY, to give high value-added C3 products such as dihydroxyacetone (DHA). The photoelectrocatalytic conversion achieves the highest DHA production among reported to date, which potentiates the solar-driven conversion of biomass valorisation towards high value-added products.
