The research group of Dr Meilan Huang at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) is inviting applications for fully funded PhD studentships under the CSC–QUB Joint PhD Programme, open to outstanding candidates from China.
Research Areas:
The group’s research focuses on the integration of machine learning, computational chemistry, and biocatalysis, including:
Machine-learning-based catalyst prediction
Rational biocatalyst design
Rational photo- and electrocatalyst design
Biomimetic artificial metalloenzyme design
CSC–QUB PhD Scholarship Coverage:
The CSC–QUB PhD studentship provides comprehensive financial support for three years, including:
Full international tuition fees at QUB
Living allowance for three years: £1,200–£1,300 per month
One return economy-class flight between China and the UK
Visa application fees

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
Expected to graduate by July 2026 (exceptional undergraduate candidates may also be considered)
Good English communication skills, supported by:
IELTS: overall ≥ 6.5, no component < 5.5
TOEFL: overall ≥ 90 (Listening 17 / Reading 18 / Speaking 20 / Writing 17)
Academic background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Computer Science
Strong interest in scientific research, problem-solving ability, and interdisciplinary work
Prior experience in programming or computational methods is advantageous
